Tongue n' Cheek Presents Lush 4: A Midsummer Carnivalle

Tongue n' Cheek is sooooo tickled to be hosting our 4th Annual "LUSH: A Midsummer Carnivalle" on Saturday, June 29th at Studio Robazzo! It will be a delicious evening full of burlesque, belly dance, spoken word, hoop dance, contemporary, beats and yummy treats!

Tongue n' Cheek is a performance troupe based out of Victoria, British Columbia. These ladies have been spicing up the stage together for the past 4 years. By fusing together their very diverse dance backgrounds and mutual love of expressive and authentic movement, they have created a very sensual and unique style of burlesque. Tongue n’ Cheek aims to create opportunities for the community to explore themselves and their desires in a safe and supportive space. To them, sex positivity includes celebrating the human body and revelling in our delicious human-ness. This supports Tongue n’ Cheek to perform their sexuality on their own terms - dancing together gives them the opportunity to determine their creative expressions and the freedom to engage with desires.Come and celebrate this evening with us!

Following the performance we will be having an epic dance party to celebrate the night! We are honored to have Rhythmicon and Deerface to provide the music scape for us to bounce the night away.

There will also be vendors selling their treats and treasures at our magical bazaar during the event. Help us support local talent! We are very fortunate to have some amazing vendors at this playful event who will be treating us with kombucha, chocolate and other treats throughout the night!

We are creating a lushious green theme for this event and all costumes are encouraged and welcome! Dress in whatever makes YOU feel playful!

Tongue n' Cheek relish the opportunity to create and share this fun & sensual afternoon of entertainment with you! As such, we require that ***NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOS*** be taken of any of the performances without EXPLICIT permission and knowledge of the performers. While this event is flirty and embraces performance in a safe and healthy manner, we also need to be mindful of personal boundaries and safety. We have a professional photographer lined up for the showcase should any performers wish to have edited photographs for memory keepsakes. Please respect our request and honour your experience by being present in the moment.

Our amazing music-makers:

Rhythmicon
You can instantly recognize him on stage: gun fingers in the air, firing off samples, sweeping FX and rewinding tracks. Victoria's resident badman Rhythmicon started his record collection in high school and has spent 15 years forming his particular style. Since then he has been at the core of the bass music scene, collaborating with The Big Reds and the influential sub|division crew. Rhythmicon has shared the stage with taste makers Zed Bias, Mumdance, Pinch, Kahn, Sam Binga, received DJ support from Skream, held residencies at Lucky Bar, Hush, The Reef, and has been a favorite at music festivals such as Rifflandia, Bass Coast, Tall Tree and Soundwave. His sets span across underground styles of grime, dubstep, drum & bass, jungle, footwork, garage and funky. Rhythmicon is also one half of Hi-Q Sound System, a multi-instrumental dub act featuring live manipulated beats, trumpet, synths, melodica and bass guitar.

Undercurrents: A night of indie techno

FRIVOLOUS ⭐ ESMI VILLA ⭐ WORLD PANTHER

Early Bird Tickets

Find your way to the loft of Studio Robazzo for a night filled with warm, silky smooth undercurrents of live electronic music with our special guests :

Frivolous (Berlin / Gabriola Island)
Aside from being "kind of a big deal" Daniel Gardner is a composer, and live performance mastermind behind the complex, emotionally charged and intimate indie-techno act known as Frivolous. With all the leftover jetlag time from his last tour, Frivolous has been crafting a new EP and Victoria is getting the North American debut!

Esmi Villa (Leningrad / West Coast)
Forged in the billows of Leningrad's underground, Esmi has developed an impeccable, uncompromising ear for great music and an insatiable appetite for after partying (we are happy to comply on both accounts). The bigger news is she will be signing off of her 20s with this special set and the best way to celebrate her birthday is to come out, stay late and get down.

World Panther (Victoria)
Wild and highly improvisational, World Panther lurks in the concrete jungle. I ran into this enigmatic electronic duo on my way to a show, plugged into a street light, jamming on some synths, in a world of their own. I was immediately lost in their mysterious sound and never made it anywhere else that night.

Studio Robbazzo, our hosts, are reshaping Victoria with their cutting edge design work and arts and culture focus. It's a treat to be invited into their creative space for an all night party.

Capacity is limited and we recommend you purchase advance tickets.

Noble Wolves' Bio
http://noblewolves.com/
Nobles Wolves blend atmospheric nuances to hard-hitting rock tunes. Five very different friends aim to create sounds that have never been heard before, taking shared influences from Radiohead, U2, and Foals while adding their signature sound to create something singular and beautiful.

Lakelse's Bio
https://www.lakelse.com/
Lakelse (pronounced lake-else) is an independent and alternative rock band based out of Victoria, BC. Formed in late 2014 by singer/guitarist Nash Park, bassist Dylan Powell, guitarist Graham Schibli and percussionist Kevin Wiebe. Hoping to incite self-reflection and a collective celebration Lakelse’s sound uses a combination of heavy slow moving guitar riffs layered with grandiose synthesizer, and honest, soaring lyrics. Intending to blend dramatic intimacy with explosive dynamics Lakelse’s sound puts the listener in a place of both comfort and unease. These intentions are ever present in their first official release, The Prospect of the Dream EP.
Recorded in early 2015 The Prospect of the Dream EP is a truly independent venture from beginning to end. The five tracks featured on the EP were written, produced, recorded and mixed by Lakelse and mastered by Jonathan Anderson (Aidan Knight, We Are The City). Invoking feelings of hope, community and the frustrations of a changing perspective, The Prospect of the Dream EP is a production full of both love and conviction.

Inertia

Inertia is the tendency of matter to continue in its existing state of rest or motion, unless that state is changed by an external force. We invite participants to reflect on the direction our society is heading, and on ways that we can create change in our lives and in our community. Blending installation art, painting, spoken word, video mixing and dance music into a full sensory experience, created all by passionate and engaged locals to the West Coast. A dark, gritty evening with a focus on drum & bass and drum & bass inspired beats, rounded out by an hour of spoken word at the end of the night.
