"WIRES" Art Gallery opening featuring Angela Hillier
Studio Robazzo and Templed Mind are focused on supporting the existing innovation and emerging talent in the arts community of Victoria. We hope that hosting regular art gallery events and other creative spaces will help foster a spirit of encouragement and honest, constructive conversation surrounding art and the artistic process.
Angela Hillier, known for her role Producing and organizing Victoria’s Art Battle, hosted a show at the studio last Friday, featuring her latest series titled “WIRES”. Inspired by the power lines that are ever-present in our urban lives, Angela uses stark geometry and vibrant colour to create a canvas for the imagination. Angela is especially interested in exploring the effect of time on memory, and this particular series uses process and materiality to express how the past is ever-present in our memories. Building layers upon layers of canvas, paper, paint and other materials, Angela’s work builds out in to the third dimension, allowing the lower layers to peek through and interact with the upper layers.
Catering was provided by Dave Basu-Roy, featuring slow-cooked lentil-coconut stew simmered in warming spices. Dessert was an addictive vegan spicy chocolate brownie. As usual, Dave’s delicious creations had guests returning for seconds (and thirds).
Performances in the White Void supplied the musical entertainment for the evening. We are so happy to continue to host White Void regulars Dustan Townsend, Megan Adair, Arya Hawker and Liam Sebelius, and first-timers Kristina Helene and Thomas Kinzel who performed a lovely jazz set.
Angela’s exhibition will be on display at Studio Robazzo until June 10th, drop by to say hello and have a look!
Our next event is taking place this Saturday May 30th, and will be a fundraiser for the Youth chapter of the Sierra Club BC. Featuring live music by The Sweet Lowdown and West My Friend, as well as a bake sale in support of the Youth Group’s current activism campaign for Pull Together.
