In May of 2018, we were delighted to be approached by the organizers of Otherworld (Vancouver Island’s regional Burning Man event) with a request to design an Effigy, which would burn on the second night of the 3-day festivities.
As usual, the project began with an algorithmic script and subsequent 3D model. We designed this 20’ tall piece to be built with 800 identical 4’ long, 2x2 pieces, in the shape of a twisting chimney for optimal burn-ability.
The modern structure, which was constructed over the course of 3 weekends by a team of incredible volunteers, stood tall on days 1 and 2 of Otherworld, promoting curiosity and wonder among the event participants.
Finally, on the Saturday night of Otherworld, our parametric effigy burned bright (and fast!) to the delight of all 800 people in attendance (including Robazzo founders, Andrew and Tinka).
